Rocky Falls, along the Ozark Trail in Missouri

The Sunday Drive

When I was a little kid we went on Sunday drives. Dad, mom and me and my little brother would jump in the car, get a dozen donuts at Danny Donuts on old route 66 and hit the road to explore.   Don’t know if my parents had any plan or destination in mind when we pulled out of the driveway or not, but I’ll tell you that those drives made memories that are still with me and some of my fondest.  I’m sure they stoked the fires of my curiosity, wanderlust and love of exploration, and travel that I have. (photo from the early 1970's Margo and brother Ward visiting Elephant Rocks State Park on a Sunday drive).

Farm Knowledge 1929 books

I got myself these amazing books, published by Sears & Roebuck in 1929. Packed full of great info and photos. Love them

Seeing a lot of these

I feel like I'm seeing tons of praying mantis this year. Maybe all the rain has an affect. I like it whatever the reason.

Looking like Nova Scotia around here

I've got this thing about mushrooms, and lichens.  I was dubbed an official lichenologist by a school professor.  So with all the rain the south and Midwest has gotten I'm having a great time with all the fungi! BTW Nova Scotia is possibly the mushroom capital of the world. This one was seen in Tennessee.

Springtime on the Cumberland Plateau

It has been a long winter this year. Very cold and wet up here but now the flowers are coming out and the birds are busy. Plus yard sales!

Hunting Gun Season through November 20th

Please use extra caution when out on the trail, wear some safety orange as hunting is allowed along most of the Ozark Trail. From my experience the hunters who I've encountered along the trail have been nice, true sportsmen, not the sort of poachers you hear about on the news.  Remember that hunting is an important part of our Missouri conservation of wildlife and wild places. Enjoy the outdoors during this wonderful season
