more "bugs"
Kitty will usually follow us on our morning walks, he's an old (in his twenty's) cat who tags along when we walk the dog. He follows us up the road, drinks from rain puddles, and meows most of the way. He likes to get under your feet and in the way when I bend down to take pictures. Sometimes either Kitty or Mattie will stomp on the mushroom or whatever I'm trying to take a picture of, they just want all the attention. On this mornings walk I saw an interesting caterpillar on the leaf of a small sapling, so I bent down to take a picture, and here comes Kitty. Of course, he walks right between my camera lens and the caterpillar and makes the leaf that the caterpillar is on bounce about. Wow, the frightened caterpillar then exposed two red orange bands, that was interesting----thanks Kitty! Our Princeton Field Guide- Caterpillars of Eastern North America describes this as a Lappet moth caterpillar (Phyllodesma americana). Watch as the caterpillar shows the red bands.
